About Us

The Record Shop of San Jose was created with the vision to become the primary source of Urban culture in Downtown San Jose. With 1 million people and growing, San Jose remained in need of a promising urban boutique that skidded everything 'mainstream' and brought a new edge to downtown shopping.

Established in 2003, the Record Shop delivers a wide variety of dance and urban music. We are committed to the dance community and promoting up-and-coming underground artists. We are one of the few stores around to carry a diverse selection of music in 12" vinyl, a special section to our DJ customers.

In 2004 The Record Shop outgrew it's original home on Santa Clara Street and moved to a larger spot on South First Street, a few shops down from the popular Bella Mia restaurant. Our new home was enhanced to support a more intimate setting and a more open spaced appeal.

Our recent expansion into the core of Downtown San Jose has allowed us to expand our product selection to include apparel and footwear. We are proud to be the only specialized boutique in the downtown area to carry the Ben Sherman and Blue Marlin clothing lines. Now, along with the latest CD's and Vinyl records, you can also browse through the latest fashion and clothing accessories.

The Record Shop strongly believes in support and involvement in local community activities. We recently hosted a winter fashion show for the annual 'Christmas In the Park' event, held in downtown San Jose. Our goal is to provide a niche experience in an environment that supports creative elements- whether it be music or fashion. We look forward to growing and expanding and ultimately bringing our vision to more people.

October 2005, The Record Shop creators opened their second store naming it "The Shop on Broadway" conveniently located on Broadway Avenue in Burlingame, California. This boutique offers Women's and Men's contemporary fashion and accessories. Supporting both creative elements it also offers a few music titles.

Look out for our expansion to Southern California in 2006.
